A tablet part is running by 1GHz ARM processor, 16GB SSD, Wifi-n, 3G, resistive touch, webcam, and battery. It’s powered by Lenovo-customized version of Linux. A base part is another machine running by Core 2 processor, standard HDD, memory, HDMI, Wifi-n [another NIC for base!!], and battery which is operated by Windows 7. You might wonder if they can really run as 2 devices; They can! according to laptopmag.com. You can use your TV or monitor plug to HDMI for the base while playing with the tablet part somewhere else.

How do they work? There is some sort of synchronizing program when 2 parts are joined. You will not lose anything when running on each device. For example, you are browsing Google Reader on tablet part. When you merge it to the base, that page will show in Windows 7 too. Well, I’m looking forward to it!

Lenovo blog says it is believed to cost $999 as starting price point and will be available in April, 2010. Not too shabby.

They look pretty good, don’t they? TechCrunch came to talk later about the detail that it is still the same idea they want at first—dead simple web tablet. Spec is still unclear, but it is 12” touch screen equipped with camera, speaker, microphone, 1*USB port, audio ports. That’s it and it’s probably powered by Intel Atom or VIA Nano. These two won’t make anything different anyway. One more thing is price. They mentioned that less than $250 is the cost. $300 could be the price for sell. How does it look to you? Will you like to try?

For me, 12” might be a bit too big for me. Also battery life is a deal breaker. We’ll see how it turns out pretty soon

Screen is completely detachable and works like a slate tablet PC. That reminds me of HP Compaq Tablet PC TC1000, hybrid tablet pc one. Although Touch Book is sort of  low power comparing to netbook or any UMPC, with $299 (or $399 w/ keyboard) price tag, it’s hard to beat. 10-hour battery life with no sleep/shutdown hassle—that looks like huge PDA replacement for me =)

I think it’s quite impressive. If you ask me, I will take this over Viliv S7 I have waited for a while since battery life is more important than performance due to my usage.

Oh I forget to mention internal USB port it features! Kind of very cool idea! Instead of hanging USB dongle outside, why don’t we put them inside the chassis??

And now they come out with their prototype B. It’s not a render photo anymore, it’s real.

Briefly it’s like Motion Computer device and runs Ubuntu. Check for more information at TechCrunch. There are youtube running this in person too, but as it is prototype, so don’t expected to have that deep info. They just told that it would be ended up around $299 or so.

What do you guys think of this? or grabbing used motion like LS800 is a better idea!? I just don’t think this Crunchpad has that bright future honestly until it will be like what they designed at first.

Whoa! What an impressive first look from UMPCportal.com. It’s Atom-based device, 1GB RAM, 30/60 GB HDD, 7" touch screen, 1024px * 600px, 830g (including battery) I couldn’t ask for more.

In fact, I don’t believe if this baby could really achieve 7-9 hours life. But by this approximation, I just wish it would get up to 5-hour-battery-life and that would be enough for my need indeed. If the price is right (less than a grand, please), I won’t hesitate to grab one.

Stay tuned! this will be out around the beginning of next year. I hope this company could make this dream come true.

Well, I am not sure whether this should be UMPC or tablet PC. Actually, it should be something in between. However, pocketables.net got a review of this baby which you really have to check it out.

It’s smaller than Eee PC, but much more interesting since its screen resolution is quite large and more importantly, it’s a swivel screen!! I do hope it will ink as good as Fujitsu P16xx or as same as Samsung Q1–that should be alright.

Inking

Inking on the SC3 in portrait and landscape slate mode is actually pretty good. The display is a passive touchscreen, but it’s not overly sensitive. It responds to stylus taps and fingernails immediately but will only register fingertaps when done deliberately.

Handwriting recognition through the Tablet PC Input Panel is great. I’m not an inker, so writing on the screen feels unnatural to me. I know there isn’t exactly a “right” way to ink, but I’m pretty sure seasoned tablet folk would notice how awkward I am. Even so, the SC3 recognized every single word I wrote.

Writing directly on the entire screen through Windows Journal is not as great, but still quite good. The screen seems able to withstand light palm touches; vectoring is only an issue with heavy palms and when that sharpish bone right above the wrist taps it.

Some folks report this happen on one w/ Wacom Intuos3 as well. After update to this version, you will find yourself much more happy like you were with its predecessors.

This is what I did:-

1. uninstall every drivers about touch + Wacom digitizer — restart once.
2. download driver here
3. then install. That’s it.
4. download Wacom bamboo driver from Wacom directly
5. then install it, now you will be able to use your pen, not your finger
6. now you’ve got to have your multi-touch in hand and install it.
   • MultiTouch Driver for Vista 32bit — Thinkpad X60, X61 Tablet
7. At this point, everything should be ready.

I have tried on Windows 7 64-bit. It works like a charm for both digitizers, no luck, no drama ever again–just work. However, you have to use only Photoshop (32-bit), not 64-bit one.

This is unbelievably easy, isn’t it? I don’t know why I could not get it work at first. If you still have the issue, get into device manager (start >> “devmgmt.msc”) then you have to see something like this;

the yellow asterisk ones are what Photoshop is looking for (bamboo driver). The rest is from multitouch driver. You’ve got to have both to get both passive and active work together.

If you have a problem, just ask. I might be able to help

Note: rarely yet I found that Photoshop doesn’t recognize the Wacom pen properly. I mean the pressure doesn’t register at all. You just have to re-open Photoshop, then it will be all set. This is waaaay better than restart your system.

The problem is Photoshop can’t recognize the Wacom pen on Multitouch screen. In other words, an active digitizer on Multitouch Tablet PC will not work in Photoshop. I don’t know if this should be a Adobe or Wacom issue though. But if I have to answer, it should be Adobe that needs to work with Wacom about this since other programs work just fine. From this problem, when you draw, you will get something like this.

You can tell that I’m not an artist or any kind close to that. So don’t laugh at me :-/ As you see, what you got from original driver of you tablet. Isn’t worth using tablet at all….

Solution:

Here is what you have to do, you have to go to Wacom website and get a bamboo driver. Then installed it. Easy, right? You will get something like this instead:-

I’m not quite sure which one is better–still kid drawing :-/ but you can see a difference, big difference since an active pen is working properly now. Nonetheless, this is not a permanent solution at all because touch–or passive digitizer–will not work under a bamboo driver. It means that you will be able to use only Wacom pen, mouse and keyboard–not your finger. If you want to touch again, you just have to install multitouch driver. Then everything will be normal again–Photoshop will not recognize active pen again. In case you want to use Photoshop w/ active pen in the future, all you have to do is reinstalling a bamboo drive back and forth again and again

I don’t know when this problem will be solved permanently but now, at least, you will be able to get an advantage of your machine. “May the active pen be with you”

updated–same day–12:44pm: After I messed with all this, I might get Multitouch work. I just need to check about it to see whether it’s going to last. Up to now, they are still working after several restarts w/o tweaking a bit. Stay tuned!
